I don’t typically open up about my personal life, but this one can become professional too. My Other Half — like myself — is a Computer Scientist (by degree) with passion for sports. Perhaps she too will get involved in SCI Fitness one day.

A competition called Mr. Fitness 2012 started 2 weeks ago and I began practicing for it (exercise as well as natural diet adaptations). A while back I wanted to take some photos at the gym, but Fabio didn’t have his camera around. Instead then, today I took my webcam and pointed it at my kitchen to take some photos for my girlfriend. I’ve never done this type of thing for anyone. Being a webcam, the pictures are low quality and completely unaltered. I still need to shed off some weight, which will happen as the competition progresses.

xercise and lifestyle fit together like a pair of gloves. A lot of people choose to exercise to improve their lifestyle and not only their health. It is therefore imperative that one should understand aspects other than workout and nutrition. There are several personal choices when it comes to gear and physical lifestyle, including leisure, social aspects, and skin care (including tan). When it comes to attire — gloves included for certain types of exercise — it is most important to choose what is comfortable for one’s exercise, not one’s self esteem. A lot of people overdress (or under-dress) to compensate for perceived issues and in the process they impede progress, reduce physical comfort (sometimes for mental gains), and in due course see the results degrading. One of the more important milestones to get past is one involving prioritisation of exercise. If one dresses up and grooms oneself for something other than exercise, then there is likely to be a disconnect in terms of objectives. A lot of people do choose to improve their appearance by exercising, but looking better throughout exercise is not the same as looking good when it is a top priority. The gym is not a disco and although there is a tendency to perceive the gym as a social place, for maximal benefits it requires dedication. A lot of folks who come to the gym with the intention of losing weight, for example, can face a cultural mismatch that sooner or later leads to disappointment. Some gyms do have social areas designated specifically for this purpose.

We are in the process of getting our efforts together and making a decision regarding the services we will offer. Today we’ve updated the page about Fabio, who is very powerful (and naturally so) owing to a particular training regimen and diet. Fabio works as a security professional and more recently he also became an occasional blogger.

Needless to say, this site is still under construction and we intend to make it ready for launch, hopefully within weeks. To say a little bit about myself, I can probably reference my older blog posts about health and exercise, starting with recent and older photos of times when I was in top shape and before I turned to more running (I could run long distances well) and cycling. Back in the days I competed in Mr. Fitness contests (see 2008 victory and photos also from prior years as I had won several times since 2004). I did well at strength events of all kinds. My main competitor was Mike Coogan, who won previous contests (here are some highlights and awards).

I participated in mini triathlons and won rowing competitions too, several times in fact, until recent years.

As a scientist, I strongly reject sport quacks and embrace solid, credible research instead. Although I did not pursue sports professionally as a child (I preferred it being a hobby/game), I do maintain a high degree of knowledge and skill in the area and I spent most of my life (over 15 years) doing regular exercise without ever taking a long break, even when time management seemed hard.
